General Rehearsal Information
Welcome to Aberdeen Bach Choir's website. We are a friendly, non-auditioning, mixed-voice choir, open to anyone aged 15 or over. Established for over 65 years, we have become one of the city's most respected amateur choirs, performing a wide range of sacred choral music, with an emphasis on the works of J.S. Bach. We usually perform two concerts each year, in April and December, with professional soloists and musicians.
Angela Slater, Chair
The 2025 James Lobban Prize for Musicology was awarded to Jillian Sinton at her graduation from the University of Aberdeen on 1 July 2025.
Jillian, who is from Philadelphia, USA, is currently pursuing a M.Mus. course at the University of Edinburgh and hopes to follow up with a Ph.D.
Eric Whitacre kindly sent this message to the Choir ahead of the performance on 6 December 2025:
I am humbled and honored to see that my work, “Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine”, will sit alongside the music of composers that I revere - Leonard Bernstein, David Del Tredici and Morten Lauridsen - in your concert this weekend. Singing together is an extraordinary experience, and I hope that you have a truly wonderful evening after all the hard work that you must have done to prepare for this weekend. Good luck, enjoy. Woo hoo! Eric
