Jillian Bain Christie - Soprano

Originally trained as an illustrator, soprano Jillian Bain Christie graduated from the University of Aberdeen in July 2012 with a 1st class honours degree in Music. She is now pursuing postgraduate vocal studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London under the tutelage of Lynton Atkinson and Linda Hirst. She currently holds a scholarship at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel (ORNCC), Greenwich.

While in Aberdeen, Jillian was the recipient of the Esther Salaman Memorial Bursary and the Daphne Pearce Bursary which enabled her to attend Dartington International Summer School where she participated in masterclasses with Dame Josephine Barstow, Jessica Cash and Dame Emma Kirkby. In May 2011 she was joint winner of the University's inaugural Concerto Competition. She was also awarded the Chris Cadwur James Composition Prize in the same year.

Jillian's solo concert and oratorio experience includes Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne, Gorecki's Symphony No. 3, Mahler's 4th Symphony, Händel's Messiah, Poulenc's Gloria, Faure's Requiem and, most recently, a solo performance as part of the festival 'Out of the Cage' which celebrated John Cage's centenary at the ORNCC, Greenwich.

Jillian's operatic experience includes Micäela in Carmen and Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte with the University of Aberdeen Opera Society. She will be appearing as Despina in Così fan tutte for Trinity Laban's 'Opera Scenes' performance later this month.
