As the year of the Homecoming draws to a close I am delighted that the Aberdeen Bach Choir has chosen to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of our national bard, Robert Burns.

Tonight is a memorable occasion as you sing the world premiere of your specially commissioned work Love is like the Melody by Ken Johnston. Ten years ago the choir had another world premiere of The Chronicle of St Machar by the renowned Scottish composer, John McLeod.  I am sure that tonight's repeat performance will be as memorable as the first.

I am of course aware of the fine reputation the Bach Choir enjoys in Aberdeen and the North East and I am sure that tonight's performance will enhance that reputation further.

My best wishes for a successful and enjoyable concert and my thanks for marking Homecoming in this way.

Alex Salmond
