This concert took a journey through the main seasons of the Christian year, beginning with Advent and ending with Trinity.

A significant piece of sacred music from each season was presented and the programme included Bach’s great Whitsuntide anthem for double choir Der Geist Hilft, Herbert Howells’ Passiontide motet Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing, Patrick Gowers’ Ascensiontide anthem Viri Galilaei, and music by Palestrina, Taverner, Wesley, Stainer and Sweelinck

The choir, under Musical Director Peter Parfitt, was accompanied by Simon Niemiński, the gifted virtuoso organist from St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Edinburgh, who also played organ solos by Bach and Messiaen.
