The charity Sistema Scotland helps children and young people living in disadvantaged communities realise their full potential. Currently working with 3,500 children and young people each week across Scotland, Sistema Scotland uses music to help address complex social challenges including poor academic attainment, health and wellbeing inequalities and low levels of aspiration.

Currently working with over 800 children and young people in Torry, from babies to teens, they provide Little Noise for babies and toddlers, in-school Big Noise sessions for children at nursery and Walker Road and Tullos primary schools, and after-school and holiday clubs for young people aged around 7 to 15 who live or attend school in Torry. All Big Noise sessions are engaging, age-appropriate and free, including tuition, healthy snacks and instruments.

Key to success of Big Noise are the trusting relationships built by consistent regular contact between the staff musicians and the children. In Torry, the 21 staff musicians are not only highly skilled educators, but also compassionate mentors and inspiring role models who work in partnership with teachers, social workers, health visitors and community workers to ensure children and young people are fully supported and nurtured to fulfil their potential.

Aberdeen Bach Choir is committed to supporting Big Noise Torry, recognising that change doesn't happen overnight and helping them to invest in a long-term programme in Torry. In the years ahead, we hope to see Big Noise Torry offering a pathway from babies through to adults.

Big Noise makes me feel happy. Sometimes I'm lonely but I'm never lonely at Big Noise.

Big Noise to me means music and life. It doesn’t just improve your music skills, it improves your teamwork skills, your independence, your improvisation. Even taking part in an orchestra can help you overcome your fears. Some people think Big Noise is just a music group, but it is so much more than that to the people that take part.
